Special guests adorn CFC v JFC tie

The crucial encounter between Chennaiyin FC and Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here today, became a more special occasion with some very special guests gracing the occasion. The Tamil Nadu Women’s Football team that won it’s maiden national title this week was present to witness the ISL match, as was Indian Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand, who recently won the World Rapid Chess Championship in December 2017.

Chennaiyin FC proudly welcomed the Tamil Nadu Women’s Football Team, who recently won their first ever National Football Championship by beating defending champions Manipur 2-1 in the final. Scoring an impressive 25 goals in the competition, the talented Tamil Nadu team defeated strong teams such as Odisha and West Bengal enroute the final. Captain of the team Nandini and tournament top-scorer Indumathi who netted ten goals, did a lap of honour with the trophy in front of an ecstatic home crowd that was full of applause for this historic set of women footballers from the state.

Also in attendance was Indian Grandmaster and the current World Rapid Chess champion Vishwanathan Anand. Chennaiyin FC is extremely proud to have hosted the former World Champion, an undisputed legend of the sport. Anand, who is a local fan favorite given he hails from Chennai, has also been awarded the Padma Vibhushan and Khel Ratna in recent years.

The list of very special guests didn’t end with Vishwanathan Anand. Little ones from Dazzling Stone orphanage in Chennai were also at the match. They had an evening to remember, cheering and supporting their idols at Chennaiyin FC with absolute gusto!
