CFC U15s beaten by champions Minerva

The Chennaiyin FC Under 15 team lost 5-0 to Minerva Punjab FC at the Utorda Sports Complex here today, its first defeat in this season’s Under 15 Youth League.

Minerva, the current Under 15 title holders, were quick off the blocks and took the lead on 13 minutes courtesy Arjun Sharma’s free-kick. Chennaiyin FC, playing in the final round in their debut season, rallied hard to equalize, but Minerva doubled their advantage before half-time with a goal from Benjohnson Moirangthem Singh.

Benjohnson then completed his double just after the interval, making it 3-0 to Minerva. The CFC U15s made some attacking changes in response to falling further behind, and looked dangerous for brief spells in the second period. But with Chennaiyin on the offensive, Minerva always had a chance to extend their lead further, and that’s what they did in the final ten minutes. Goals from Samson and Isra Khan towards the end making it 5-0 to Minerva.

The CFC U15s will be aiming to bounce back against their next opponents FC Mumbaikars, whom they face on January 31 at the Utorda Sports Complex.
